7 Ways to Do Multiple Outfits in a Short Amount of Time
Calling ALL over achievers! I know you don’t want to LOOK like you are wearing the same outfit everyday for the next 3-12 months, which means you are likely going to want to switch out your outfits at least once or twice during your branding sessions. The reality is, whether you book a full branding photography shoot or one of my brand mini’s - you don’t want changing outfits to take up a lot of your time!
As a Calgary Brand Photographer, I’ve collected a few of my top tips for getting multiple looks out of one single brand session!
1. Planning Your Branding Outfits Ahead Of Time
I always say that branding photos are an investment, and you should treat them like such! Seriously, don’t open your wallet if you aren’t going to take the time needed to make the most of your session! Check out this post with tips for making the most of your session. Planning your outfits ahead of time will save you the time when you undoubtedly try on an outfit that doesn’t look quite right during your session. A night before your branding session (ideally NOT the night right before your session) try your outfits on, take photos of yourself, and try out those crazy poses.
2. Keep Your Pants On
Not to sound too cheeky, but keep your pants on. Nobody will notice if you are wearing the same black dress pants - or let’s be honest, leggings - in every single photo. Focus instead on switching out your tops. After all, your pants likely won’t be in most of the photos anyway but if you are wearing the same top in a year’s worth of Instagram photos even the most unobservant follower will start to notice.
3. Dresses
It’s so easy to throw a dress on. If it fits your brand, a collection of maxi dresses are easy to change between and make for perfect summer photos. Don’t forget you can always add different jackets to neutral dresses to completely change the look. Which brings me to my next tip...
4. Having a Blazer or Jacket You Can Take On or Off
Want your ideal clients to know that you aren’t allllll business? Tossing on a blazer makes you seem super professional. After all, aren’t we all rocking business casual nowadays? A blazer is enough to make you look like a real business owner 😉. If you want a mix of professional and approachable, take a few pictures with your blazer on and a few off. Looks like two outfits!
5. Having earrings/jewelry changes set out ahead of time
Don’t forget the accessories! If you are showing up daily with new and interesting earrings in your Instagram stories, bring them to your brand photos! The same way you don’t want to wear the same top in every photo, if your jewelry is an attention grabber, you won’t want them in every photo (or if you always rock a statement piece - switch them out with each outfit!). This is one of those situations where if it doesn’t get planned so take the time to plan!
6. Knowing exactly what outfit is used for.
When you are trying different outfits on, make a note of which outfits look best standing, which look best sitting. You might also want to divide your outfits into different categories. For example, the blazer/blouse combo is for the headshots. The leggings and oversized sweater outfit is for laptop photos on the couch!
7. Mind Your Undergarments (Or, Wear a Bodysuit!)
Please, unless you need to, don’t choose outfits that require different bras or undergarments. I recommend you keep this portion of your wardrobe as easy as possible - with a bodysuit or your favorite essentials. Your undergarments are likely NOT going to be in the photos so let’s not waste any precious time!
